How pickup works in Livonia
Livonia is one of our busiest pickup areas — lots of long-time homeowners with full basements and home offices. We make regular runs between Five Mile and Eight Mile and everywhere in between.
1. Tell us about the books
Use the request form, or call or chat with Sam, our assistant, any time of day. We need your address, roughly how many boxes, and ideally a photo. We email you a pickup day within one business day, usually within the week.
2. Box them and set them out
Any sturdy box or bag. On pickup day, put the boxes on your porch or the spot you told us about by the start of the window. Keep them dry — under a roof or a tarp. Wet books can't be picked up.
3. We collect from the porch
Our driver comes by during the window and takes the boxes. It's contactless, so you don't need to be home. The books are resold through our online bookstore to readers across the country; what can't be sold is donated or recycled.
What we take in Livonia
Non-fiction only — textbooks, art and photography, history and biography, science and medicine, business and law, philosophy and religion, how-to and reference, and any other non-fiction. We don't pick up fiction, children's books, cookbooks, encyclopedias, Time-Life sets, magazines, or CDs, DVDs, tapes and records. Have a mix? Box up just the non-fiction.
